Forks over Knives Again….Beer Bread…Again

I watched Forks over Knives again last night…well, actually, this morning (I kept falling asleep, so I didn’t actually finish the film until early this morning).

Every time I watch this film, I become alarmed about something else in our diet. This time it was refined flour and oil. I try to avoid white flour, but J LOVES a nice hunk of white bread slathered in butter, and I haven’t been helping matters by making him big fat focaccia buns made with, among other things, white flour and olive oil.

Actually…they do look pretty good, but back to matters at hand!!

Knowing how much he likes Annie’s beer bread, I took another stab at making it even healthier this morning. Here’s the most recent version:

Even Healthier Beer Bread

3 cups whole wheat flour

2 TBS. baking soda

1.5 tsp. salt

Mix together in a big bowl.

Add 12 ounces of beer and 1/4 cup maple syrup.

Mix together and bake for 50 minutes at 350 in a bowl sprayed with coconut oil.

The verdict is in: He likes it…hey Jamie!!

For the next batch, I’m going to sneak some chia seeds in.

After weeks of beautiful weather, it’s chucking it down here on the island this morning. Crazy-ass rain with Ontario-style thunder and lightening!

  1. Sounds like you may need another infusion of maple syrup??? We have the thunderstorm going on today but needed it desparately so that my garden can grow 🙂

    1. I was JUST thinking how much better the bread would taste with Doran’s amazing maple syrup!! I’m trying to upload a video of the rain here–it’s INSANE! I want to see more pics of your garden! Do you have a blog or Instagram?
